London Theatre |
 |
London theatre is, arguably, the best in the world. Said by some to be 'Better than Broadway'.
With hundreds of top quality venues, plays written by accomplished
writers and many of them featuring the cream of the acting world, such as Hollywood's finest,
it is easy to justify such a claim.
The London Theatre industry has gone form strength to strength. With writers the likes of
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and producers such as Sir Cameron Macintosh we can see why.
Lloyd has composed some of the most successful musicals ever made including The Phantom of the Opera.
Similarly, Macintosh produced Miss Saigon and Les Miserables. Together, they have put London theatre
firmly on the map.
London theatre no longer follows in Broadway's footsteps. It is now setting the trend with such
quality originals as Jerry Springer the Opera, Boy George's Taboo and Victoria Wood's Acorn Antiques.
Furthermore, many more plays are set for their debut in London, such as the stage adaptation of Billy Elliott.
Most London theatres are open six days a week. They generally open Mon - Sat, being closed
on Sundays. They are also open normally open on all UK Bank Holidays,
except Christmas Day, when all theatres are closed.
Theatres are divided into West End , Fringe and repertory like The National Theatre (NT). |
